Responsibilities shift, values and beliefs are questioned and endless decisions call for immediate action without a clear understanding of our options or our goals. Regardless of the prognosis, this event permanently changes our lives and leaves us vulnerable to depression and other problems that undermine our hope and complicate our medical care.
Thanks to the generous support of the Monadnock United Way, MAPS offers free support groups to individuals with cancer and to family members caring for someone with cancer. These groups meet weekly for support, education, spiritual reflection and healing. In addition, MAPS offers individual or family counseling for those who are need additional care
Fear of the unknown is the greatest obstacle cancer patients face after initial diagnosis and start of treatment. Some answers can be found by meeting with other patients who have successfully conquered cancer. From sharing common problems comes common solutions.
The Saint Francis / Mount Sinai Regional Cancer Center has several programs designed to assist cancer patients and their families.
The many support groups at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center offer a safe place to talk, as well as to listen and learn from one another.
All survivors and caretakers are welcome! Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church’s “Cancer Club – Where Hope Happens” meets every fourth Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Parlor, September through June.
